POWER FLOW CONTROL

A power transmission and/or distribution system including at least one power line (2) connecting two parts of the system and at least one high voltage rotating power converter means (3) connected in the system for controlling power flow in the system. The rotating power converter means (3) includes at least one winding having electrically conducting means (41) surrounded by electrically insulating means (42) comprising magnetically permeable solid material within which the electric field is confined in use of the power converter means. The at least one rotating power converter means (3) is connected directly, by a transformerless connection, to, or in series with, the at least one power line (2). The invention also relates to a power flow controller and to a method of controlling power flow between two power systems.
