The invention relates to thermosensitive hydrogels loaded with solute materials, and more particularly, to the delivery of biologically active solute materials to target locations within a mammalian body using thermosensitive cellulose gels. The temperature controlled solute delivery system used comprises a medical device (e.g. a membrane or a catheter), a thermosensitive cross-linked cellulose ether gel structure over said medical device and a biologically active solute within said gel structure. An increase of the gel temperature leads to a deswelling together with a release of the solute.
