A recliner assembly (10) for an automotive seat has a seat cushion and a sea t back pivotally mounted to the seat cushion. The recliner assembly includes a housing (12) and a cover plate (14) encapsulating the housing. The cover pla te (14) has an outer ring (58) with a plurality of teeth (60). Three pawls (16) are mounted within the housing (12). The pawls (16) each have a toothed surface (40) and are moveable between a locked position and an unlocked position. The cover plate (14) has an inner surface with a plurality of radially circumferential extending detents (66) engaging pins (46) exdenting axially from each main body portion of the pawls (16).
