PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a bright and large-sized moving picture display device whose screen size is large by a comparatively simple constitution and whose resolution is excellent. SOLUTION: This display device is provided with an ultraviolet ray light source 2, the light valve 4 of a single plate constituted by having plural picture elements selectively transmitting or reflecting ultraviolet rays, an ultraviolet ray projecting optical system constituted of a lens and a mirror 7 and a transmission type or reflection type screen 1 coated with a phosphor executing the necessary light emission of a spectrum by the radiation of the ultraviolet rays at a position corresponding to each picture element of the light valve 4.
