PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with excellent response speed and viewing angle characteristics, without being influenced by the scatter of switching element characteristics, realizing a stable display and ensuring stability of a halftone display. SOLUTION: The display is carried out during a period in which the light transmittance of the liquid crystal materials having spontaneous polarization and enclosed in the liquid crystal panel is constant independently of the time in which a TFT 11 remains turned on. Even if any variation occurs in the length of time for electron injection into the liquid crystal material due to the scatter of characteristics of the TFT 11, transmitted light intensity is unchanged and a stable display including the halftone is possible.
