PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide guide rails made of a non-ferrous material and an elevator guide device. SOLUTION: Guide rails 12 are integrally formed with the structure of a hoistway 10, and desirably include concrete. Plural air cushions are provided in an elevator car adjacent to the concrete rails 12, and when the elevator car moves in the vertical direction, these air cushions inject the air flow to at least one, desirably all of the surfaces of the rails 12 and at least the rail 12 of the car to control so that the energizing force is generated between each rail 12 and the car. Air is supplied by a fan or other supply source. The car is positioned at the center position of each hoistway by the air flow injected to each surface, and the smooth and quiet elevating operation is thereby provided.
