An automated inspection apparatus for the surface of nuclear pastilles has a bench (1) with an inspection zone and a discharge zone served by a tray and revolving rollers (not shown). Defective pastilles are extracted from the stream of pastilles going to a receiver tray. The drive units are on arms (2,3) of a Cartesian robot, and the rollers are actuated by a motorized endless belt.
