PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent dispersibility, coating film smoothness, electromagnetic transducing characteristics, and running durability and nearly free from scraping of the surface of a magnetic layer and dirt of a magnetic head in repetitive running of the magnetic recording medium of high recording density for a digital video tape recorder. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium contains a silane modified polyurethane resin obtained by reacting polyurethane (a) having hydroxyl groups in its molecule and alkoxy silane (b) having an isocyanate group with each other. The alkoxy silane (b) having the isocyanate group is preferably trialkoxy silane represented by a specified formula and the silane modified polyurethane resin is preferably contained in the magnetic layer and/or a non-magnetic layer.
