PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide AES (amorphous alkaline earth silicate salt) fiber that retains excellent solubility even after the state having the heat history and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: Inorganic fiber made of alkaline earth silicate salt that includes individual components of CaO and SiO<SB>2</SB>, heat-treated at a temperature exceeding 400°C and has a dissolution rate of more than 100μg/ml in the physiological salt solution and inorganic fiber made of alkaline earth silicate salt that includes individual components of CaO, MgO and SiO<SB>2</SB>, heat-treated at a temperature exceeding 600°C and has a dissolution rate of more than 100μg/ml in the physiological salt solution are provided.
