PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a manufacturing cost and drag resistance in an engaging element for an automatic transmission. SOLUTION: As engaging element for an automatic transmission is provided with an outer ring 50 pressed by a second piston 88 and having a conical face 52 coming in contact with a conical face 44 of an inner ring 42 connected to a planetary gear member, and a thrust ring 60 connected to the outer ring 50 by a helical spline 54 and also connected to a case 80 or another planetary gear member and axially moved being pressed by a first piston 84 restricted in a range of moving axially in relation to the outer ring 50 and in a range of moving in relation to the case 80 or another planetary gear member.
