Backlight systems including a core layer, configured to be flexible, and at least one light source are described. The core layer contains at least one light-excited fluorophore. The light source is arranged on an edge of one side of the core layer. Further, the light source is configured to emit first light into the core layer through the edge of the one side of the core layer. The core layer is configured to transmit the first light therein and to emit second light caused by the light-excited fluorophores irradiated by the first light from a first surface of the core layer.

1. A backlight system comprising:
a core layer configured to be flexible and containing light-excited fluorophores therein; at least one light source arranged on an edge of one side of the core layer and configured to emit first light into the core layer through the edge thereof,
wherein the light-excited fluorophores are dispersed in the core layer; andwherein the core layer is configured to transmit the first light therein and to emit second light caused by the light-excited fluorophores irradiated by the first light from a first surface of the core layer; and a shell layer arranged on the first surface of the core layer, wherein the shell layer has a lower reflectance than the core layer.
