C. engine air cleaner system comprises a damper door 35, 36, Fig. 2 pivotally mounted adjacent warm and cold air inputs 32, 34 to control the mixture of warm and cold air reaching the air cleaner, a vacuum chamber assembly 16 connected to a vacuum source and to the door for controlling the position of the door and a temperature sensor 14 for controlling the degree of vacuum in the chamber. Orifice 99 Fig. 6 of sensor 14 is connected to tube 64, Fig. 2 of the vacuum chamber assembly 16 and orifice 101 is connected to the engine intake manifold. The long leg 110 of a bimetallic strip responds to the temperature in filtered air chamber 24, Fig. 2 so that at low temperature the valve member 118, Fig. 6 is held against seat 103 whereby the engine intake vacuum is communicated to chamber 92 through orifice 99, chamber 122, hose 124 and tube 64. The vacuum created in chamber 92 Fig. 3 lifts piston 82 against spring 90 to lift hook 50 and damper doors 35, 36. Warm air passing through conduit 34 passes through conduit 13 to raise the temperature of air in the filter. At high temperature the bi-metallic leg 110 moves to allow the valve member 118 to unseat to diminish the vacuum in chambers 122 and 92 so that spring 90 closes the damper door 35 whilst opening damper door 32 to allow the flow of cold air into the filter.</p>
