1,255,086. Catheters. BAXTER LABORATORIES Inc. 28 Oct., 1969 [2 Dec., 1968], No. 52648/69. Heading A5R. [Also in Division F2] A catheter assembly for connecting a catheter 12 to a fitting (18), Fig. 4 not shown, comprises an adapter 14, having a bore which includes an end portion 26 for receiving the fitting (18) and a constricting portion 24, and a bushing 34 frictionally held within the adapter. The catheter 12 is frictionally held in a passage 36 of the bushing due to elastic constricting pressure of the bushing on the catheter. The adapter 14 further comprises a nozzle 22 on its front end and the portion 26 of the bore is so proportioned that the bushing is free to move in the rear part and is immobilized due to frictional gripping of the bore at the forward end there of the bushing is inserted into the bore 26 of the adapter and a cannula 38 is inserted into the passage 36 to widen it. The catheter 12 is then inserted in the cannula 38 which is then removed so that the passage reduces in size and the bushing grips the catheter. The bushing is moved to its immobilized condition by pulling the catheter forwards of the adapter or by inserting the fitting to push it forwards. Alternatively cannula may be inserted in the bushing before the bushing is inserted in the adapter. |
