A plant for the purification of contaminated water comprises at least one basin 5, Fig. 1, which is made of a material, e.g. a fabric reinforced plastic, which yields to the turbulence of the water therein, has walls which are downwardly convergent, and is situated within an outer basin 15 filled with water. The water is subjected to mechanical, biological and/or chemical treatment in the basin. The basin 5 may be supported by floats 4 in outer basin 15. A pump 7 removes settled sediment from the bottom of basin 5. The contaminated water is supplied to the basin 5 by a conduit 1 which has a flexible portion 2. Purified water flows from basin 5 into basin 15 via outlets 8. An outlet 13 and a water supply device 14 permit the level of the water in basin 15 to be maintained constant. Alternatively, Fig. 3, the lateral walls of basin 15 may be formed by sheeting 60 driven into the ground and the bottom by a coating 16 of asphalt. One inner basin 26 has means to aerate the water and another 40 is for clarifying purposes, the two basins communicating via a flocculating basin 36.</p> |
