The material may be sodium hydroxide. As illustrated, three protective tubes 3 and four heat extracting tubes 4 are uniformly arranged in a cylinder 1. Water is passed through the tubes 4 from a header 7 to be vaporized and subsequently condensed in a heat exchanger 6 to heat the circulating fluid of a central heating system. The header 7 is connected to an expansion tank by a line 10 and is large enough to accommodate any excess steam formed by overheating without allowing overflow to the expansion tank. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the tubes 4 are replaced by a jacket which surrounds at least the sides of the storage material container. |
