PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain such a magnetic recording medium with high output that causes little contamination of a head or clogging of a head, suppresses wear of a head, hardly causes contamination of a calender roll due to burning of a magnetic layer in a calendering process and has excellent storage property. SOLUTION: (1) This magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer essentially comprising a ferromagnetic metal powder and a binder resin on a nonmagnetic supporting body. In this magnetic recording medium, the ferromagnetic metal powder contains 5×10<-4> to 0.2 atomic % Ca, 5×10<-4> to 0.2 atomic % alkali metals and 5×10<-4> to 0.4 atomic % Ni atoms to Fe atoms. (2) The medium has a nonmagnetic layer essentially comprising an inorg. nonmagnetic powder and a binder resin formed on a nonmagnetic supporting body, and the medium has at least one magnetic layer essentially comprising a ferromagnetic metal powder and a binder resin formed on the nonmagnetic layer.
