Foamed liners are moulded in closure caps S by forming a dry mixture of a thermoplastic resin and a blowing agent, working the mixture into a fused foamed state in an extruder 12, dispensing, by means of knife 16, discrete charges C into caps carried by a rotatable conveyer 18, transferring the loaded caps to a position over an anvil 20, and finally moulding the charges to shape using a cooled tool 22. The caps may be heated prior to receiving the charges and the thermoplastic resin is preferably P.V.C. plasticized by two synergistic plasticizers.</p> |
