Hollow ingots esp. steel tubes are continuously cast in an ingot mould with cooled walls which are subjected to resilient deformation transverse their longitudinal axis during formation of the ingot. The core wall may be subjected to compressive forces while the outer mould walls are subjected to extensive forces and vice versa.
