[Also in Division B3] A work pallet 1 for use, e.g. in a numerically controlled machine tool, comprises tapped holes 2 arranged in a square grid pattern to which are attached a variety of support elements 6, 7 and 8 by which means the workpiece is clamped to the pallet. The support elements 6-8 are aligned on the pallet 1 by using a template 75 having cut-outs 76, 77, 78. Each support element 6-8 has one or more support surfaces 9, 18-20 and 29, 30 to which the workpiece 74 is attached by one of a variety of fixing devices. These may include a spring biased member 86 (Fig. 6) having a screw threaded end 87 which is screwed up into a tapped hole 92 in the workpiece 74; a spring biased member (93) (Fig. 7, not shown) having a dowel end portion which engages in a hole in the workpiece 74; or a member (99) (Fig. 8, not shown) having a tapped hole to receive a fixing bolt that passes through a hole in the workpiece 74. The end portion of the dowel end may have a cone with a flat tip (Fig. 9, not shown) which can act as a datum point for location by a microscope. |
