1,217,590. Aerosol compositions. COLGATE PALMOLIVE CO. 17 April, 1968 [17 April, 1967], No. 18134/68. Heading C4X. [Also in Divisions C3 and D1] A composition comprises a water-soluble starch and a polymer of a compound of formula wherein X is H, C 1-8 alkyl, Cl or F; X 1 is H, Cl or F; X 2 is H, C 1-4 alkyl or halogen; n is 3-30; m is 1-3; and at least 70% but at least 6 of the X's are F. The starch is preferably a thin-boiling acetylated amylopectin or else may be a gelatinized, oxidized or nitrogenated starch; amylopectin sulphate and ethoxylated and modified starch are also exemplified. The polymer is preferably selected from perfluoroacrylates and α-substituted acrylates, and may be copolymerized with one or more vinylic monomers; many specific examples are given. The polymer is preferably in the form of aqueous latex. In examples the following optional ingredients may be present; formaldehyde, polyethylene, polystyrene, poly-(n-butyl)methacrylate, a urea- or melamine-formaldehyde condensate, dimethyl silicone, vinyl acetate/vinyl stearate copolymer, polybutadiene, and poly-2,3-dichlorobutane. Aerosol compositions comprise, in examples, an aqueous emulsion as above, with one of the following propellants: isobutane, n-butane, methyl chloride, hexafluoethane, nitrous oxide, "Freon" 12 (Registered Trade Mark) or a mixture thereof with isobutane. Other suitable propellants are also specified. These compositions produce on fabrics the stiffening effect of starch, which washes out on subsequent laundering, and a water-and-oil repellant finish which does not wash out, and builds up with repeated application of the composition. |
