1,179,059. Polyurethane foams. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 9 July, 1968 [10 July, 1967], No. 32747/68. Headings C3C and C3R. Polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting, in the presence of water and/or other blowing agents, a polyisocyanate and a polyester containing hydroxyl groups and which is the esterification product of one or more alkoxylated mono- and/or polysaccharides with one or more polybasic carboxylic acids and, if desired, a monobasic carboxylic acid and other polyhydric alcohols. The preferred alkoxylated mono- and/or polysaccharides suitable for use in preparing the polyesters are alkoxylated cane sugar and its alkoxylated invert products. In examples propoxylated cane sugars are reacted with such acids as adipic acid, phthalic acid anhydride, and tetrachlorophthalic acid. anhydride optionally in the presence of trimethylolpropane. The polyesters are reacted with conventional polyisocyanates, e.g. diphenylmethane-4,41-diisocyanate in the presence of water or other blowing agents such as trichloromonofluoromethane and in the presence of conventional catalysts and foam stabilizers. |
