In the manufacture of mineral fibreboard from a slurry of synthetic mineral fibres and raw and/or cooked starch, a quantity of asbestos shortened to colloidal length is included to improve the strength of the product. The asbestos may be chrysotile or amosite, and the slurry may include natural clay, e.g. bentonite, ball clay or kaolin. The slurry may be flocculated by a surface-acting agent such as polyacrylamide to prevent loss of clay in the white water. |
