1,084,204. Chain-extending and cross-linking polymers ; foamed polyurethanes. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. Sept. 22, 1964 [Sept. 26, 1963], No. 38563/64. Headings C3B, C3C and C3R. Polymers are prepared by reacting prepolymers containing at least one reactive functional group with a polyhalo-octahydromethanonaphthalenedicarboxylic acid or anhydride. Prepolymers specified are epoxy resins, polyurethanes, polyester and polyamides. Examples describe the curing of an epoxy resin, a polyamide and polyesters with 5,6,7,8,9,9-hexachloro - 1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a - octa - hydro - 5,8- methano - 2,3 - naphthalenedicarboxylic acid to give fire-retardant polymers. Foamed polyurethanes are obtained when a blowing agent such as water is incorporated into the reaction mixture and the prepolymer is an isocyanate terminated polyurethane. |
