1505361 Electrochemical oxidation of cyanide NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 3 Feb 1976 [18 Feb 1975] 6801/75 Heading C7B CN ions or complexes, particularly in industrial effluent from production of nitrides, nitride polymers, fine or heavy chemicals, electroplating or metal hardening operations, are electrochemically oxidized by a process in which the electrolyte contains Ni added as salt such as sulphate or complex; precipitation of Ni(CN)2 is used to indicate the end point of the reaction and may be recycled as Ni source. The electrodes may be of Pt, platinized Ti or Ta, or C. Plate or fluidized bed cells or systems with rotating electrodes may be used. The concentration of Ni(II) is preferably at least 10<SP>-3</SP> molar.
