PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high image quality by doing so as not to be seen a black line or a white line on a screen, when a display level of a display device is changed. SOLUTION: In a display device which displays multi-gradation image (for example, 16-gradation image) by hourly dividing a screen display period (for example, 1 frame) of a display panel (for example PDP) into a plurality (for example, 4) of display periods matched to display gradations and giving weighting to a sustain pulse number of respective division display periods (for example subfield), the sustain periods (for example ST1-ST4) in a plurality of divided display periods constituting the screen display period are equally set into the state illustrated in a figure (b) so that a non-display period (an unlit period) Th in a level change point (for example, a point where a level is changed from '7' to '8') is made to approach to a frame cycle Tf nearer than a conventional case (Tj), a black line or a white line become hard to be seen on the screen in changing of the level, and a false outline can be prevented from being formed.
