Oil sump of four wheel drive tractor - has open tunnel through centre for cardan shaft from differential to power take=off

The sump is dished longitudinally along its centre to form a tunnel (4) open at the bottom. The cardan shaft (3) from the differential in the front axle to the power takeoff at the back of the tractor passes through this tunnel. A wall (9) at the bottom of the sump forms a transverse passage (8) below the cardan shaft between the two sections of the pump on either side of the shaft. This makes the two halves of the sump act together as a single unit. The suction filter (12) for the oil pump can be in the transverse passage (8).
