<p>An article of manufacture formed at least partly from copper, e.g. an electrical wire, has an adherent electrically insulating refractory layer deposited thereon preferably by a sputtering process. The article is also provided with an intermediate metal layer of thickness of at least 1.1 micrometres that acts either as a barrier to diffusion of copper or oxygen or has a modulus lower than that of copper. Alternatively more than one intermediate layer may be present in which case thinner layers may be used. The articles may be used as circuit or signal integrity cables and exhibit improved high temperature performance.</p> |
