Quaternary dioxazine dyes <IMAGE> in which X1 and X2 independently of one another denote hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, cyclohexyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy, CN, CONH2, CONH-alkyl, CON(alkyl)2, CONH-aryl, COO-alkyl, NH-CO-alkyl, NH-aryl or NH-CO-aryl and Y denotes an anionic group, Z<(+)> denotes a group of the formulae <IMAGE> which represents a 5-7-membered ring which can be fused to further rings, with the proviso that group II contains at least one further heteroatom if it represents an aromatic monocyclic ring, <IMAGE> which represents a 5-7-membered ring which can be fused to further rings, and in which R1 represents an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical, or corresponds to <IMAGE> in which R2-R5 represent an alkyl, an aryl or aralkyl radical, a represents 2-4 and b represents 1-4, A<(-)> denotes an anion, B1 and B2 independently of one another denote a fused ring system containing 2 to 4 carbocyclic and/or heterocyclic rings, m denotes 0-2 and n denotes 1-6, and in which the cyclic and acyclic radicals and the rings B1 and B2 can carry further substituents, with the proviso that the sum of the anionic substituents is smaller than the sum of the quaternary and/or of the optionally present quaternisable amino groups, are suitable for the dyeing of substrates which can be dyed with basic dyes.
