PURPOSE:To perform accurately the seek operation at a high speed by providing a rack groove on an arm extending from a head carriage, and engaging a feeding screw with the rack groove, and inserting a metallic round bar to a shaft to form a screw part, and supporting it with an elastic member. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head 2 is attached onto a head carriage 1 and is guided by a slide shaft 3 and is moved in the horizontal direction. An arm part 1a is formed in a part of the carriage 1, and a feeding screw 5 rotated by a stepping motor 4 is extended under the arm part 1a in parallel with the shaft 3. The arm part 1a is provided with a rack groove part, and the rack groove part has such sectional shape that it is fitted to the screw groove of the screw 5, and the rack groove part is fitted to the screw 5. A flat spring 8 under the screw 5 uses its spring elasticity to clip the screw 5, and the arm part 1a is kept engaged with the screw 5. With respect to the screw 5, a metallic round bar 5b is inserted to the shaft, and a screw part 5a is formed by injection molding. Thus, oscillation and noise are reduced to perform the accurate high-speed head seek operation.
