PURPOSE:To determine a time for replacing a printing head by a method wherein check pattern data is read by a memory means when a test mode is selected by a selection means, and the test pattern is printed by the printing head and a printer. CONSTITUTION:By depressing a test printing switch provided on an operation panel 61, a printer takes a test printing mode and starts a check printing. A pattern in which a missing part can be easily known is preferably used. The data of the check pattern is stored in a test memory 46 in an image forming device 42, and this data is read to conduct printing. If a user or repair man checks the printed-out check pattern and is aware of the shortage of a dot on a position where the dot should exist, the breakage of a light emitting element corresponding to the appropriate dot can be judged. |
