<p>PURPOSE:To perform automatic speed control smoothly corresponding to road congestion by accelerating or decelerating a motor mounted on an automobile depending on a distance computed by a distance computing means in response to the decision by a mode deciding means of an automobile-to-automobile distance control mode. CONSTITUTION:Photographing means 10-17, CPU1 takes a picture in front of an automobile and a distance computing means CPU2 computes a distance La from a preceding automobile in its running lane through the photographed picture. On the other hand, speed detecting means MAG, SV10, CPU3 detect the speed V of the automobile. When a mode deciding means CPU3 in a fixed speed running control unit 13 decides an automobile-to-automobile distance control mode, an automobile-to-automobile distance control means CPU2 decides either to accelerate or to decelerate a motor accelerating/decelerating means mounted on the automobile depending on the distance La, long or short, respectively. That means an automobile-to-automobile distance adjusting run. When the mode deciding means CPU3 made mode decision, an information control means CPU3 gives information in response to this decision for mode transition via information means CTR 1, 4.</p> |
