PURPOSE:To readily obtain the title compound useful as an industrial raw material, by using a fluorine atom-containing porphyrin manganese complex as a catalyst and reacting benzene with an oxidizing agent under a mild condition approximately at room temperature. CONSTITUTION:A porphyrin manganese complex shown by the formula is used as a catalyst and benzene is oxidized with an oxidizing agent to give the objective compound. The reaction is carried out in a solventless state or in a solvent. A hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon, especially dichloromethane is preferably used as the solvent. An aqueous solution of oxygen peroxide or an aqueous solution of hypochlorous acid is used as the oxidizing agent. The reaction temperature is 0-30 deg.C. |
