PURPOSE:To ensure that a recording medium is heated to an optimal condition according to its type and thereby a recorded result of high print quality is obtained by determining the type of the recording medium and heating the medium prior to recording and at the same time, modifying the quantity of heat applied to the recording medium according to the type of the medium. CONSTITUTION:CPU 27 controls an ink jet head l, a heater 19, a sheet feed motor 47 and a carriage motor 49 through dedicated control circuits 39, 41, 43, 45 respectively. In this case, each output signal is entered to CPU 27 from a thermister 21 which detects the heating temperature of a heater 19 for a platen supporting an unillustrated recording medium and the first and the second detector 23, 21, which detect the type and presence of the recording medium. Then the amount of heat applied to the heater 19 is controlled according to the type of the recording medium. Subsequently, each set of set temperature data for changing the heating temperature of the heater lay that is, the platen in accordance with the type of the recording medium is stored in data memory 35 of ROE 29 in CPU 27. |
