PURPOSE: To electrically determine the initial excitation phase of a stepping motor at the stop position of a stopper while the improvement of component precision and assembly precision is not required. CONSTITUTION: The step rotation of pole teeth of the rotor of a stepping motor which has (m) excitation phases is detected by (n) (n>=m/2) magneto-electrical transducers and the detection signal voltage is binarized. The positions of the respective magneto-electrical transducers are so set as to have the coupled logic values of the (n) binary values which are outputted so as to correspond to the respective exciting phases under the conditions with which the rotor can rotate different from each other. After the rotor is forcibly stopped (202), the excitation phase is changed in the order of the excitation phase change when the rotor is forwarded to a stopper (208). In accordance with the relation between the excitation phase and the coupled logic value of the binary signals at that time, the initial excitation phase with which the rotor 8 is put into a stable state at the forcible stop position is determined (212, 214). |
