PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a highly pure diaryl carbonate by efficiently continuously distilling off the diaryl carbonate without causing a secondary reaction. SOLUTION: The method for producing the diaryl carbonate comprises reacting a dialkyl carbonate or an alkyl aryl carbonate with an aromatic hydroxy compound in the presence of a metal catalyst. Therein, the improvements comprise continuously feeding the reaction mixture containing the catalyst into a multistage distillation tower 1, separating a distillate containing most of the diaryl carbonate from the overhead, discharging a high boiling point component containing a metal catalyst distillate from the bottom, continuously feeding the discharged high boiling point fraction into an evaporator 2 to subject the fraction to an evaporation treatment, recycling the obtained evaporated component into the multistage distillation tower 1, recovering a high boiling point concentrated product containing the catalyst, and further distillation-purifying the distillate from the multilstage distillation tower 1. |
