The method includes cutting, in a plane plate (1) in a semi-rigid material, a shield (4) having a dorsal contour (F) which is a little wider than its final shape. The plate is split, in one or more places, between its edge and a central point (7). The edges of the split (2,3) are overlapped to make the plate concave, to fit the shape of the back of the user. The edges are bonded together and the plate is then fixed to the back of the rucksack.
