The detector has an electrode device coupled to an oscillator, with the electrode capacitance varying as the gas component of the fluid flow passed between the electrodes (2,3). The latter are provided by a pair of electrode rings positioned around the outside of a fluid flow line (1), with the axial length (b) of the electrodes at least equal to the line diameter and their relative spacing (a) less than the line diameter.
