PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element capable of color displaying and bright. SOLUTION: The reflective liquid crystal display element is at least provided with a liquid crystal cell 2 having a single pixel or plurally divided pixels and driven by an electric field, a polarizing plate 1 arranged on the one side of the liquid crystal cell 2, plural cholesteric films 1R, 2L arranged on the other side of the liquid crystal cell 2 and a light absorbing layer 3 arranged on the side of the cholesteric films 1R, 2L opposite to the liquid crystal cell 2. Besides at least one film 1R of the cholesteric films 1R, 2L has a right twist helical structure and at least one film 2L of them has a left twist helical structure. The light absorbing layer 3 has an absorptive power with respect to all or most of the light with wavelengths in the selective reflection wavelength regions of all the cholesteric films 1R, 2L. |
