PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe and efficient method for starting up a production of an alkanolamine in producing the alkanolamine by using ammonia, an alkylene oxide and a solid catalyst under an adiabatic condition. SOLUTION: This method for starting up a production of an alkanolamine is characterized by starting the reaction at a higher temperature then a prescribed temperature at the inlet port of a reactor and at an alkylene oxide concentration lower than a prescribed concentration, then gradually proceeding to the prescribed temperature at the inlet port and the prescribed alkylene oxide concentration. Even under an adiabatic condition using a nonhomogeneous catalyst system excellent in heat resistance, it is possible to prevent the reaction heat from a rapid elevation, not to mingle the unreacted raw material with the product and attain a stable starting up. |
