PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Lewis acid catalyst used at reduction reaction of an aldehyde compound and a ketone compound in the presence of a secondary alcohol, easy in handling and high in activity. SOLUTION: This Lewis acid catalyst, used at the reaction for reducing the aldehyde compound and the ketone compound to a primary alcohol and a secondary alcohol respectively in the presence of a secondary alcohol, is shown by [((Rf1SO2)2N)n1]M1 or [((Rf2SO2)3C)n2]M2 (wherein Rf1 and Rf2 are each a >1C perfluoroalkyl group; M1 and M2 are each a rare earth element; (n1) and (n2) are integers equal to the atomic valences of the M1 and M2 respectively). |
