PURPOSE: A method for downloading an application program using a set top box is provided to prevent a service from being delayed owing to unnecessary download of the application program, by enabling the application program to be downloaded only when it is necessary in the set top box. CONSTITUTION: When power supply is applied to a set-top box, a controller performs a booting operation(200). The controller accesses a server via a network, and then receives the version of the application program that will be downloaded from the server(202). The controller determines if the received version thereof equals to the version thereof which is stored in a flash memory(204). If two versions equal to each other, the application program presently stored the flash memory is executed(210). If the two versions does not equal to each other, the controller receives the application program and its version from the server via the network(206). The received application program and its version are stored in the flash memory(208).
