The device has a ventilation unit to produce a pressure balance in a fuel tank. It also has a separator vessel (8) to separate fuel from a gas contained in the fuel tank (1). The ventilation unit (6) is connected to the separator vessel, and both are located inside the fuel tank. The separator vessel has upper gas intake (9) and gas outlet (10), which are separated by a splash guard (12) so that fuel transported by the gas is moved into a lower section of the vessel with an outlet (13) for the fuel to return to the fuel tank. The gas intake is connected to a gas pipe (7) to connect the vessel to the ventilation unit and a filler limitation valve (5). The gas outlet has a roll-over float valve (11) and is connected to a filter.
