PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a profile of a printer in a short time and to attain color matching with high accuracy. SOLUTION: A color chart 3b is printed on the margin of a printed matter 3. The color chart 3b consists of many predetermined patches 3c in which the dot area rate of each color is predetermined. Color data of each patch 3c of the color chart 3b printed on the printed matter 3 are collected by automatic scanning with a colorimeter. The profile of the printer is generated by the color data (color values) of each patch acquired with this colorimeter and the dot area rate of each color defined for each patch. Since the color data are collected through automatic scanning with the colorimeter, the measurement time is short and the printed matter can be measured immediately after print without causing a flaw to the printed matter, and the profile of the printer can be generated in a short time. The profile of a color calibration output device is generated by using the same colorimeter. Thus, the difference between the characteristics of the colorimeters is eliminated, and color matching is made with high accuracy. |
