MAGNETIC DISC FOR SELF-CLEANING DISC DRIVE RECORDING HEAD AND CLEANING METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: A magnetic disc for self-cleaning a disc drive recording head and a cleaning method of the disc are provided to mechanically clean the recording head when the recording head passes. CONSTITUTION: A magnetic disc(10) for self-cleaning a disc drive recording head includes a landing zone(12), an abrasive cleaning zone(20), and a data zone(14). The abrasive cleaning zone is placed on the flange of the disc and has a width larger than the width of the recording head by 0% to 30%. The peak of the surface roughness of the abrasive cleaning zone is lower than the flying height of the recording head flying on the disc. The mean-to-peak abrasion ratio that indicates the difference between the average value and peak value of the surface roughness is approximately 40-80% of the flying height. The data zone is located between the landing zone and the abrasive cleaning zone. To clean the recording head when the head moves on the disc, the recording head is moved to the cleaning zone when a command of stopping a motor is received. The recording head is maintained on the cleaning zone while the motor speed is gradually reduced. When the recording head comes into contact with the abrasive face of the cleaning zone, the recording head is mechanically cleaned. Before the motor stops, the recording head is moved to the landing zone.
