The invention relates to a method and a device for the determination of an interruption of a communication connection between a domestic appliance and a controller and for reestablishment of communication after lifting the interruption. According to the invention, an interruption in a communication connection between a domestic appliance (for example, HG1), optionally connected in a local network (LAN) to further domestic appliances (HGn), to a bus line arrangement (BUS), including a bus line controller (BM), by which information about the status of the relevant domestic appliance (HG1) may be transmitted to the corresponding bus line controller (BM), may be determined and a continuation of such transmissions on a reestablishment of the communication connection after a lifting of the interruption may be achieved, whereby a particular fixed criterion of said domestic appliance (HG1) is repeatedly requested over time by the bus line controller (BM). On an established communication connection from the domestic device (HGl) to the bus line controller (BM), a reply signal is transmitted, should no reply signal be transmitted, an interruption in the communication connection is considered to be present, whereupon a search operation for the domestic appliance (HG1) is carried out by the bus line controller (BM) until a reply is obtained from the former again, whereupon information corresponding to the then valid current status of the domestic appliance (HG1) is transmitted to the bus line controller (BM).
