The device has an upper hook (7) supported on an armrest of an armchair. The hook (7) is fixed to a lateral skirt (5) which is applied exteriorly along the armrest. A lower hook (9) is fixed to the skirt for suspending a handbag or a strap of the handbag on the armrest. The upper hook has two end hooks (17) in reverse U-shape, which are connected to each other by their ends turned towards the interior of the armchair.
