PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent for retaining freshness of a plant with cut root part such as a cut flower and an agent set for retaining freshness of the plant. SOLUTION: The agent for retaining freshness of a plant with cut root part comprises anα-ketol unsaturated fatty acid derivative represented by general formula (1) (R1is a 1-5C straight-chain alkyl group or a 2-5C straight-chain unsaturated hydrocarbon group in which the number of double bond is one or two; R2is a 1-15C straight-chain alkylene or a 2-15C straight-chain unsaturated hydrocarbon chain in which the number of double bond is 1-3). The two agents mixed type agent for retaining freshness of a plant with cut root part is composed of (A) a plant freshness-retaining composition and (B) another plant freshness-retaining composition for cut plants and the component B comprises, preferably, germicide, boron oxide and saccharides.
