A humidifier additive comprising an organic acid salt of chitosan is provided to efficiently absorb and remove formaldehyde, main cause of the interior air contamination, by being added to water inside of a humidifier and then being sprayed into the air, and also inhibit the breeding of harmful bacteria living in the humidifier due to excellent antibacterial activity of the chitosan. The humidifier additive comprises a water-soluble chitosan having the de-acetylation degree of 60-100% and the polymerization degree of 1-5,000 and is characterized in that it is dissolved in water inside of the humidifier and discharged with moisture or fine particles of water sprayed from the humidifier so as to absorb contaminants in the interior air and remove them. The method for purifying contaminants comprises the steps of: (a) dissolving the humidifier additive in water of the humidifier to have the chitosan concentration of 10-100,000ppm; and (b) allowing the aqueous solution obtained from the step(a) to be sprayed by the operation of the humidifier so as to absorb formaldehyde contained in the air and remove it. |
