PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new spiro ring-containing norbornene derivative, a norbornene-based ring-opening polymer hydride obtained from the derivative, and an optical resin material and an optical molded product each containing those. SOLUTION: The present invention provides a spiro ring-containing norbornene derivative represented by formula (I) [wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each independently a halogen atom, a polar group or a 1-30C hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent, wherein the 1-30C hydrocarbon group may have a linking group containing a halogen atom, an oxygen atom, a nitrogen atom, a sulfur atom or a silicon atom; p, q, r and s are each independently an integer of 0-3; a, b and c are each independently an integer of 0-2 with the proviso that both of b and c are not 0; A is a single bond, -O-, -S-, -SO-, -SO<SB>2</SB>-, -C(=O)-, -NR<SP>5</SP>- or a 1-30 divalent hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent (wherein R<SP>5</SP>is a hydrogen atom or a 1-30C hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent, and the 1-30C hydrocarbon group may have a linking group containing a halogen atom, an oxygen atom, a nitrogen atom, a sulfur atom or a silicon atom)] and its utilization.
