Fluorinated glycidyl ethers are produced by reacting a metal fluorocarbinolate of formula (I) with an epihalohydrin to give the fluoroglycidyl ether of formula (II) :- where R = H, halogen or an aliphatic gp., optionally substd., and at least two R gps. are fluorine; pref. all the gps. R are fluorine and M = a metal. The cpd. I is prepd. by reacting the corresponding ketone with a metal fluoride, such as potassium, caesium or rubidium fluoride. Pref. ketones include hexafluoroacetone, monofluoropentachloroacetone, or 1,3-dichlorotetrafluoroacetone. The reaction is carried out in an inert solent such as dioxane. The cpd. I is not isolated, but is reacted with the epihalohydrin to give the glycidyl ether II.
|
